Consider These Things During Furnace Installation

February 11, 2016

Installing a furnace may take a few hours or it may take a few days. It depends on the scope of work involved in regards to the venting configuration, duct design considerations and other aspects, but in most cases the furnace is installed in one day. Lozier will make sure you don't go without heat overnight when installing a furnace. For your furnace installation to go smoothly, consider the following factors before work begins.

Prepare Your Home
Before your HVAC technician arrives, make sure the path to the work area is clear, and that the work area itself is free of clutter. Communicate any special instructions to the company, such as parking and how to contact you if you won't be present during the entire installation,

Furnace Sizing
Before you pick out your new furnace, you have to know its size. Furnace size is based on a multitude of factors. The size of your home is the obvious consideration, but it is by no means the only one. A thorough assessment of your home's heat gain/loss, local climate, sun orientation, occupancy and more is factored into furnace sizing.

Venting Considerations
Higher-efficiency furnaces, such as modulating and condensing furnaces, operate using sealed combustion and venting. Sealed operation is substantially more efficient and safer than conventional furnaces. Your flue may need to be modified or you may need a new venting system altogether.

Duct Design
Your new furnace won't do you very much good if the ducts aren't in good shape and of the right size. A duct evaluation should be part of the estimate and sizing process of your new furnace. Your ducts may be just fine, need a few leak repairs, or you may be better off modifying your air ducts for optimal performance.

Energy Evaluation
If your home is older or you have drafty spaces, ask your HVAC technician about performing an energy evaluation. By sealing air leaks and boosting insulation in your home, you will maximize your furnace investment and performance. The most important decision on your plate is choosing a reputable HVAC contractor to work with.
