Why Should You Regularly Replace HVAC Air Filters?
March 24, 2015
When was the last time you paid any attention to the air filter in your HVAC system? If you can't remember, you may be shortening the lifespan of your system, making your home more difficult to clean. These are just a few reasons why you should regularly replace your HVAC system's air filter.
Furnace and air conditioning equipment can be a large investment for your home. With proper care and maintenance, these systems can last an average of 15 years or more. However, if you don't replace your HVAC air filter on a regular basis, you may shorten its lifespan considerably. Air filters help stop dust and debris from entering fans and electrical components, which keep them operating efficiently.
If your filters need to be changed, you may notice more dust and other small debris on your furniture and floor. Not only do filters protect your equipment from dirt, they also help stop a lot of pollutants from escaping your HVAC vents. If dust and dirt is more noticeable, your filter may need changing because it's too full to perform its job.
One of the most important reasons to replace your HVAC air filter is to improve your indoor air quality. Airborne dust particles, pet dander and other pollutants are some of the worst things that can trigger allergy symptoms and asthma attacks, as well as itchy eyes, runny noses and coughing. You and your family will benefit from cleaner air.
With such wide variety of air filters available, finding a replacement to suit your needs won't be a super difficult task. Be sure to write down the size and style required for your system and make it a point to check on its condition monthly.
If your filter looks dirty, it's time for a change.
