AFUE Rating

AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency, and is expressed as a percentage of how energy efficient the heating system is. A higher AFUE rating means higher efficiency.

Variable Speed

This refers to a motor that operates at different speeds to more accurately control the flow of heated or cooled air around the home.

Single Stage Vs. Two Stage Furnace

A single-stage furnace contains a fixed gas valve and a single-speed blower motor that are either on and running at full capacity or off. A two-stage furnace contains a two-stage gas valve and a variable-speed blower motor to allow the furnace to run at a lower setting in milder weather and a higher setting in very cold weather. For locations that experience extremely cold temperatures, a modulating furnace is a good option as they provide highly adjustable settings.
